In early 1984 the City of Deepwater received a license from the Corps of Engineers to construct a boat ramp 1 1/2 miles east of town on the old Murphy farm. The boat ramp was built with donations of labor, materials and money. Since then many improvements have been made.to the boat ramp and people from all over use this access to Truman Lake. It might be called "The Gateway to Truman Lake"
In 2006 the water level dropped to a record low because of the drought. This made it disappointing to the boaters as they could not use the boat ramp, but it made it ideal for the committee to take advantage and repair the ramp at the lower end. There was a drop off at the lower end. Boaters had to be extra carefull as not to damage their boat. The committee decided at that time to tear out 25 feet of the ramp and put new concrete at the lower end. Once again, a group of volunteers and members of the Boat Ramp Committee joined together and on December 16, 2006 made the improvement. This has made loading and unloading your boats much easier. A big thank you to all those involved.
In the month of April, 2008, another improvement was made. Through the Boat Ramp Members and volunteers, the committee then constructed a shelter for everyone to enjoy. It has picnic tables under the shelter along with 2 grills at the west end which was built by Gerald and Darrell Wolfe.
With the donations of members, the Boat Ramp Committee always has something on the agenda to be able to keep the ramp up and running. Our members come from all over the U. S.

E. B. Henderson "Slim" as everyone knew him was not only the Mayor in 1984, he also was one of the first to start the construction of the Deepwater Boat Ramp. We probably could say that he was the responsible party to get the permission from the Corps of Engineers to build the boat ramp. He will always be remembered.
